Independent fire and exit door assessments for nursing homes, senior living, apartment buildings and commercial properties across the Twin Cities. Locally owned, flat-priced, and we don't sell the fix.

Last reviewed October 21, 2026.

The quick version

  • Locally owned and based in the Twin Cities. We serve Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs.
  • Independent: we walk and score every fire and exit door. We don't sell hardware or do repairs.
  • Built for buildings with a lot of doors: nursing homes, senior living, apartment and condo buildings, offices, schools and industrial sites.
  • Flat pricing by door count, starting at $900. See pricing.

Who we work with

  • Nursing homes and skilled nursing getting ready for CMS survey. See CMS fire door inspections.
  • Assisted living, memory care and senior apartments. See assisted living fire doors.
  • Property managers and owners of apartment, condo and mixed-use buildings with stairwells and corridor fire doors.
  • Offices, schools and industrial buildings that want a dated record before an insurance renewal, a sale or a renovation.

What the rules are here

Minneapolis, St. Paul and the rest of Minnesota follow the Minnesota State Fire Code. For most buildings, it removes the set inspection schedule for swinging fire doors but keeps the duty to keep them working. CMS-certified healthcare buildings still have to inspect and test fire doors every year under federal rules. Our Minnesota fire door requirements page explains both, with sources.

Your local fire marshal can still look at your doors at any inspection, and a door that doesn't close and latch can be cited.

How it works

  • 1. Tell us about the building. Use the form below or call. We'll give you a flat price based on door count.
  • 2. We walk every door. Most buildings take a single visit, scheduled around your staff and residents.
  • 3. You get the report. Every door scored Pass, At Risk or Fail with photos, a prioritized fix list with installed-cost estimates, and a door schedule you can hand to your contractor.

What we do (and what we don't)

Check My Egress is a locally owned, independent door assessment service in the Twin Cities. We walk every egress door in your building (fire-rated or not) and score each one Pass, At Risk, or Fail. You get photos, the code reference behind each finding, a prioritized Corrective Action Plan with installed-cost estimates (materials plus labor), and a Door Schedule listing every door and its hardware as found. We don't sell hardware or do repairs, so we have nothing to gain from finding problems.

Our assessment is an independent, documented opinion. It is not a certification, not proof of compliance, and not an inspection by the Authority Having Jurisdiction or a CMS surveyor, who always have the final say.
